I was able to get to the Met this past weekend after a hockey game to see the "Milkmaid" by Vermeer. I highly recommend seeing this masterpiece before it leaves the country on November 29. He was a photorealist 300 years before that term even existed. He also understood complementary color theory 250 years before the Impressionists invented it. This painting looks as fresh and vibrant as I'm sure it appeared when he finished it. Truly amazing to see it up close...
