Empire State Building with Water Tanks-Chelsea, NYC, NY

Completed painting...

oil on linen

22" x 22"

I want to take a NY minute right now to say a little something about this painting. I think this is pretty close to what I am after regarding composition in a painting.

Paintings are "read" by the viewer the same way one would read a letter; from left to right. With this arrangement, the eye enters the painting from the left side, stepping down over the 3 water tanks, curving back up through the lower right corner, proceeding up the Empire State Building and back down over the sloping cirrus clouds, back to the water tanks, keeping the viewers' eye inside the picture plane in a circular pattern. Except for a few minor omissions on my part of unnecessary objects in this painting, this is pretty much how this scene appears at 12th Ave. and 24th St. in Chelsea.

Very nice work...wow, that is a ton of detail and you do that the best. I like the composition very much.
Bravo to you!
