Fleming Smith Building - TriBeCa, NYC, NY

First day of work on this new painting.

This is the Fleming Smith Building in TriBeCa in NYC., located at 451 Washington Street at the corner of Watts Street.

The facade is a combination of Romanesque and Flemish Revival architecture designed by Stephen Decatur Hatch in 1891.

In 1898 it was a shoe factory and warehouse for wine. This was the first building in TriBeCa to be converted for residential use. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an NYC landmark.

I am going to try something new with the process of creating this painting. I will be posting images of this painting as it progresses to my "In Progress" blog. I have never documented the daily progress of a painting before, so I thought that I would give it a shot with this one. If I can pull this one off, it should be pretty striking when finished.
